KOALAThis year students in the Junior School at PLC will be participating in the KOALA Awards. Unlike the Children’s Book Council Awards, which consist of Australian books published in the previous year and chosen and judged by adults, the KOALA Awards are chosen and judged by the children who are reading them. In the words of Jackie French,

“Of all the awards, the ones that kids choose themselves always mean the most. But they are also a great way to show kids that what THEY love is important.”

In term 1 students will be nominating their favourite Australian book. The school’s nominations are tallied and sent to KOALA where nominations are counted and a shortlist of 40 books is compiled. Once again students then vote for their favourite books from this shortlist. Last year our very own Chris Morphew was the winner of the section for Fiction for Years 7-9 with Arrival, the first book in the Phoenix Files series.
